The School Day

Timings of the school day

timings of the school day 2025.pdf

The total number of hours the school is open to pupils (excluding optional before and after school club provision and activities) is 32 hours 30 minutes

The school gates will open at 8:25am.  Children should arrive between 8:30 - 8:40am, and go straight round to class.

Registration closes at 8:45am and the school day ends at 3:00pm.

Collection Procedures

At the end of the day children from year 3 & 4 will be brought out to the playground at the front of the school for you to collect.

We would expect children in year 3 to be collected from the playground at the end of the school day and from after-school clubs. If you wish to make other arrangements with your child (meeting them for example at the bottom of the runway, on the green at Rectory Road etc.) they must be happy and confident with this.

Children in year 4 can also be collected from the playground.

If you would like your child to meet you in a particular place please ensure you email the class teacher in advance. You can find the teachers email addresses on our website here: https://www.tabjunior.org.uk/Our-Staff/.

Please discuss with your child where they should wait and what to do if you are late (return to a school adult or go to the school office).

Year 5 and 6 children will also be brought out by their teachers via the gate at the side of the front main entrance and will either head home on their own or meet with their parents at a pre-arranged location (either on or off the school site).

If there is a change in your child's collection arrangements, including if they are being collected by a different adult, please ensure that you email your child's class teacher giving 24 hours notice.

For short notice changes to your child’s pick up arrangement please contact the school office.  Please ensure that you give as much notice as possible to ensure that the message can be passed on to your child.

Walking Alone To and From School Guidance

There is no set age when children are ready to walk to school or home by themselves, as each child matures at an individual rate. It will also depend on how busy the route is and how many roads need crossing.

If parents have assessed that children can manage the route to and from school independently,  children in year 5 and year 6 may walk to and home from school by themselves or with friends.  There should be someone at home to meet your child to ensure that they have arrived home safely.

Parent/carers should assess their child’s readiness by considering:

  • Whether they can cross all the roads confidently and can negotiate the route
  • That they will come straight home
  • They know what to do if they are approached by people they do not know
  • That if they normally walk home with a friend and the friend is not there, that they can ask school to phone home for advice
  • That they know they can return to school at any time and ask for help
  • That they will behave sensibly. Parents/carers are always responsible for their child’s behaviour before and after school. If a child’s behaviour is unacceptable or dangerous then we will insist that they are accompanied/collected.
  • The NSPCC states that children under 8 years of age cannot judge the speed and distance of moving vehicles. They still need help when crossing the roads.
