Equality Objectives

Equality Objectives and Protected Characteristics

The Equality Act became law in 2010. It covers everyone in Britain and protects people from discrimination, harassment and victimisation. Everyone in Britain is protected. This is because the Equality Act protects people against discrimination because of the protected characteristics that we all have. Under the Equality Act, there are nine Protected Characteristics:

At TAB Junior, we are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for all children, staff, parents and carers, irrespective of race, gender, disability, belief, religion or socio-economic background. 

 Our approach to equality is based on the following key principles:

  1. All learners are of equal value
  2. We recognise and respect difference
  3. We foster positive attitudes and relationships and a shared sense of cohesion and belonging.
  4. We observe good equalities practice in staff recruitment, retention and development.
  5. We aim to reduce and remove inequalities and barriers that already exist.
  6. We have the highest expectations of all our children.

 In order to further support our children, raise standards and ensure inclusive teaching, we have set the following objectives:

  •  Identify opportunities to develop diversity in the curriculum. Further opportunities will be developed for children to learn about famous people from minority groupings and those with a variety of abilities including those who are neurodiverse. Collective worship will continue to be used to celebrate festivals of a range of cultures and countries.
  •  Resources will be diverse and reflect the school’s commitment to representation, diversity and equality. Children will see themselves reflected in books, displays and chosen resources and we will continue to ensure that images and pictures include different cultures, race and religion, different disabilities and family backgrounds so that all children feel represented and included. 
  •  Staff, governors and parents will confidently recognise and celebrate diversity within our community whilst promoting community cohesion.
